Four 18’ tall, 4.5’ wide Tableaux Elements MDF grilles in 1” steel framing adorn this feature wall of the common area at The Ruby at Chadwick Commons, a recently introduced luxury apartment complex just north of Fort Worth.
Designer Niki Landry with HPA Design Group contacted Tableaux about this multi-family project. Tableaux has enjoyed working with HPA Design Group on over 30 different projects in the last 5+ years and was eager to work on this with Niki.
Q: With regard to design, what were the needs and expectations of your client for this project?
A: Create a comfortable and sophisticated resident experience with opportunities and spaces open to hosting events.
HPA Design Group contacted Tableaux and sent the preliminary elevation and design concepts below.
Q: What challenges did you face in meeting the design goals of this project?
A: Filling the double volume amenity space with dynamic and interesting finishes and staying within budget.
The Tableaux team came up with a preliminary drawing based on the initial information received. HPA’s original idea was to use metal for the panels, however; Tableaux presented the idea of using their “Elements” product family.
Tableaux Elements is made from an industrial-grade MDF substrate that together with Tableaux’s finish color application methods, can achieve the look of thick metal at a more economical price. Tableaux also presented Niki with an example photo of a project that was under construction at that time which used MDF that looks like metal.
Once Tableaux was able to obtain final dimensions and proposed installation methods from the installer, they created a shop drawing with section details. The decorative grille panels were split in two halves, both approximately 9’ long and 4.5’ wide. The steel frames were 18’ long, so it was noted that a forklift should be ready to go at the building site for a smooth install.
Q: How did Tableaux Decorative Grilles help meet the design goals and vision for this project?
A: The Tableaux screen became the feature in the main club room area. It spanned the wall and became the backdrop for all furniture and work spaces.
