Material
Specifications

At Tableaux, we use only the highest quality materials. Each panel substrate used was carefully selected and tested for its ability to be designed, cut, and finished to our quality benchmarks. Substrates are also chosen based on their natural textures and how well they complement specific design styles. Detailed material specifications for all Tableaux Product Families are listed below.

The material substrate used to make Tableaux Elements Architectural Panels is made with a formaldehyde free adhesive system and is designed for critical applications where Class 1 flame retardant material is required. The material has a low flame spread and smoke development as well as extremely low VOC emissions. During the manufacturing process, the flame retardant additive is blended with the fiber throughout the panel. This process delivers superior performance versus topical flame retardant applications. In addition, the material can be machined, cut, sanded, and grooved without compromising its flame retardant properties. This makes Tableaux Elements a great alternative to using metal when a project calls for thick metal that may be out of budget range. Cutting is done on Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines.

  • Guardian Certified, U.S.Class 1/A (E-84) standards: Flame Spread – 15 Smoke Developed – 5
  • Guardian Certified, Canadian Class 1/A (S102) standards: Flame Spread – 10 Smoke Developed – 5
  • Guardian Certified, meets requirements of Extended Duration Surface Burning Characteristics (ASTM E-2768)
  • Pre-consumer recycled wood content
  • FSC® Mix Credit Certified (available option)

  • No Added Formaldehyde (NAF) Exempt – State of California Executive Order N-18-313
  • Third party certification – SCS, ECC, Guardian
  • CHPS compliant – California section 01350 approved

Elements For Exterior

The material substrate used to make Elements EXTERIOR Architectural Panels is a revolutionary product for exterior applications that performs better than wood or MDF. The manufacturing process for this material binds natural wood fibers with phenolic resins and zinc borate. Cutting is done on Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines.

  • Twice as strong as standard MDF, made to be used outside
  • No added urea formaldehyde; made from sustainable materials
  • Moisture resistant: As measured by ASTM D1037 for Water Absorption and Thickness Swelling

Aluminum

Aluminum (aluminum alloy) is one of the lightest metals in the world: it’s almost three times lighter than iron but it’s also very strong, extremely flexible and corrosion resistant. Aluminum is 100 percent recyclable without loss of its properties. Aluminum’s physical properties make the metal light in weight, strong, non-corrosive, non-sparking, nonmagnetic, nontoxic and noncombustible. Cutting options include Laser Cut or Waterjet Cut as determined by project specs or budget.

  • Aluminum alloy, primarily alloyed with magnesium and chromium
  • Good tensile strength, density, formability, workability, weldability
  • Exceptional corrosion resistance against seawater and salt spray
  • Popular for use in marine, aircraft, architecture, general sheet metal work, etc.

Standard Steel

Steel is not a single product. There are more than 3,500 different grades of steel with many different physical, chemical, and environmental properties. We use High-strength low-alloy steel (HSLA) sheets for projects specifying thicknesses of 7ga (3/16) or 11ga (1/8). This Mild Steel is the most common form of steel because its price is relatively low while it provides material properties that are acceptable for many applications. Cutting options include, Laser Cut, Waterjet Cut, or Plasma Cut, as determined by project specs or budget.

  • High-strength low-alloy steel (HSLA)
  • Provides better mechanical properties or greater resistance to corrosion than carbon steel
  • Carbon content between 0.05–0.25% to retain formability and weldability
  • More resistant to rust than most carbon steels
