We are proud to showcase our work at Lux Costa Mesa, a project we began in 2019 in collaboration with the exceptionally talented Designer and principal, Leslie Wilson of Bricolage Inc. Together, we crafted 271 custom decorative panels, each uniquely sized and designed with a custom organic branch pattern. The result is a striking installation that blends artistry, precision, and timeless design. Tableaux Architectural panels tailored these interior panel solutions from 0.75” class 1 FR MDF, reaching up to 48” x 96”. These architectural design panels were integrated into the building’s wall applications, adding warmth, texture, and illuminated floor numbers that make the space both stylish and functional.

Additionally, Tableaux produced a signature architectural decorative panel for the center of the lobby, featuring an organic branch pattern. The design was a two-panel solution, with each panel measuring 48” x 94”. These were finished in Soft Satin White and mounted with a custom aluminum framing system. The panels offer both a seamless and durable display.

Designer and principal, Leslie Wilson, emphasizes natural ideas and human experience, making the collaboration with Tableaux Architectural Panels on the Lux Apartments a seamless fit to create a welcoming sense of home.

Designer: Leslie Wilson, Bricolage Inc.

Q: What design goals or outcomes were you hoping to achieve with this project?

L: Every project carries its own story—shaped by the owner, the site, and the end users. Our goal is always to craft a design that tells a unique story through design panels and leaves a lasting impression.

Q: How did Tableaux Architectural Panels help meet the design goals and vision for this project?

L: In multi-family housing, “moments of arrival” are essential—they set the tone and create the feeling of being at home rather than in an institution. We focused on these key moments, such as unit entrances and elevator lobbies. On a large development spanning over four acres, achieving this sense of intimacy was especially challenging. Tableaux provided a custom decorative branch panel for every wall application, which played a major role in creating that welcoming experience.

Q: What inspired the choice of the tree-like decorative panel design in this project? And did it ultimately align with your design needs?

L: The overarching concept was “Come home to vacation every day,” a contemporary interpretation of resort living. We incorporated natural motifs—water, trees, earth, and air—as design anchors. Trees, symbolizing shelter and comfort, felt like the perfect element to highlight the “moments of arrival.” The custom decorative panels aligned beautifully with this vision, creating an impactful wall application throughout the lobby.

Q: Were there any specific decorative materials, textures, or finishes you requested from Tableaux Architectural Panels to achieve your vision?

L: We had a specific color direction in mind, but the materials were selected from Tableaux’s wide range of standard offerings, including the MDF element material wall panel. Their extensive options and their custom lookbook project examples made it easy to find the right solution within our budget and schedule constraints.

Q: Were the panels customized to meet specific design or functional requirements? If so, how?

L: Yes. The building features nine different ceiling panel heights where panels were installed. We worked closely with Tableaux to standardize and simplify the panel designs, including custom thicknesses, so they could be adapted efficiently across those varying conditions.

Q: Did the panels meet your expectations in terms of durability, quality, and performance?

L: Absolutely. Two years after opening, including in semi-exterior corridor locations, the architectural panels have performed exceptionally well with no maintenance issues.

Q: What do you think was the most valuable contribution Tableaux Architectural Panels brought to the Lux Apartments project?

L: The three-dimensional decorative panels at unit entrances elevated the sense of luxury throughout the building. In large-scale developments that span many years, it’s often difficult to allocate finish budgets to unit entries. It took some convincing, but ultimately everyone agreed the panels were one of the most cost-effective and impactful design decisions we made.

Q: Did the size of the Tableaux panels meet the needs of your design vision for this project? And if so, how accurately did they meet your expectations?

L: Yes, the panels were custom-sized to fit the site and perfectly matched our design requirements. Their custom panels and hardware solutions ensured a precise fit and cohesive design.

Q: Looking back, is there a specific moment in the design or installation process with Tableaux that really stood out to you?

L: The design was completed before the global pandemic, but fabrication and purchasing occurred afterward—when costs across the board were escalating. The Tableaux team worked closely with us to ensure the custom panels remained feasible for the project. Their flexibility and partnership made a real difference.

Q: How would you describe your overall experience collaborating with Tableaux Architectural Panels, and would you be open to partnering with us again on future projects?

L: Tableaux was professional, efficient, and responsive at every stage. Their offerings, including their interior architectural panels, make them a valuable partner. We would gladly work with them again and highly recommend them to other designers seeking decorative panels for multi-family housing.

Bricolage Inc., headquartered in Santa Monica, California, is a full-service architecture and interior design firm creating imaginative, buildable spaces for residential and commercial projects. The studio combines diverse design expertise, including lighting, landscape, product, and graphic design, and partners with other firms to tackle a wide range of projects.

The LUX Apartments at Costa Mesa is a luxury apartment that is more than just your new home. It’s a unique place of true so-called living that offers a fantastic vibe, future-minded amenities, and outdoor spaces for the whole community. Querencia, Barton Creek

This project was originally introduced to Tableaux by the talented design team at 828id, who envisioned a striking “panel waterfall at elevator locations.” Their creative concept began with wood/MDF, and through collaboration with Tableaux, evolved into an even stronger idea: using 100% aluminum.

From the start, working with 828id was a true partnership. 828id vision was clear and inspiring. Together, Tableaux and 828id brainstormed and refined the concept, determining not only the design but also the practical details of how the individual panels would connect and how the full system would integrate seamlessly into the ceiling.

What stood out most was 828id’s openness and collaborative spirit. They embraced Tableaux’s suggestion to shift from MDF to aluminum — a move that enabled more precise laser cutting, enhanced structural stability, and lightweight grilles that perfectly supported the project’s ambitious design goals.

828id’s design direction called for a rustic yet sophisticated aesthetic, with a palette of burnt orange, black, gold, and navy. To support their vision, Tableaux provided a range of powder coat finish samples, with “Sputtered Charcoal” paired with the “Tessera” pattern emerging as the winning combination.

The process involved several iterations, and 828id’s commitment to balancing creativity with practicality made the collaboration seamless. Together, we worked through design refinements, value engineering, and installation considerations to ensure the final solution was both beautiful and functional.

This project was a perfect example of what happens when innovative design meets technical expertise. Working with 828id was an absolute pleasure, and Tableaux is proud to have partnered with such a talented firm to bring this vision to life.

Querencia at Barton Creek affords an upscale senior living experience teeming with possibility. Casually comfortable yet effortlessly elegant, it’s an Austin, TX, retirement community focused on what’s really important. Where individuals live consciously — both socially and environmentally. That’s why all 38 acres of their campus are lovingly cared for, and each resident feels like a familiar friend.

Epicurean Hotel

This project has been a long time coming, as Tableaux and our Rep Alan Robbins of ICFN were first contacted by Rule Joy Trammell + Rubio, LLC (RJTR) back in 2018. The project called for decorative grilles cut and shaped to look like branches that would be suspended from the ceiling in a hotel to be constructed within a new mixed-use development called “1105 West Peachtree” in Midtown Atlanta.

Q: With regard to design, what were the needs and expectations of your client for this project?

A: As the name Epicurean infers, food and beverage are the centerpiece of the Epicurean Hotel, part of the 1105 West Peachtree development in Midtown Atlanta. Whether it be via literal functionality through space planning and programming, implied by color, texture and tone or tangible bits of whimsey sprinkled through the interior as “aha moments”, the interior is cuisine-centric and thematic

Located in the Arts District of Midtown, Atlanta, the Epicurean Atlanta is a 178-key hotel situated along 13th Street, between West Peachtree Street and Peachtree Walk. The 16-story hotel’s ballroom overlooks a lush and vibrant amenity plaza on the 9th level and can be divided to accommodate a wide range of event sizes all of which find themselves under a canopy of branches, a nod to Georgia’s prolific orchards. Warm wood accent walls and oatmeal colored wall covering are wrapped around the dark shadowy carpet in tones of mission fig and wild rice under the Tableaux canopy.

During the early stages of design, Tableaux was sent concept photos and drawings to determine feasibility and provide feedback and guidance on how this idea and design could be realized. Tableaux also provided RJTR a couple photos of designs from similar past projects to solicit more thoughts.

Q: What challenges did you face in meeting the design goals of this project?

A: A custom ceiling design element that fit within an allowable budget was needed and it was paramount that attention to ceiling access, lighting flexibility and suspension weight was addressed.

After feedback from RJTR, Tableaux created a few preliminary design drawings for client review.

The initial idea was to make a total of eighteen 10’ by 5’ sections using Tableaux Metal in ¼” aluminum.

After a technical review and meeting, the client liked the idea of making them thicker. To achieve this, Tableaux suggested using their “Faux Iron” product family, which is made using sustainable, industrial-grade, moisture resistant, medium density fiberboard (MDF) panels utilizing a formaldehyde-free adhesive system and pre-consumer recycled wood fiber.

Two 1-inch “Faux Iron” pieces would be glued together back-to-back creating a 2-inch thickness for each section. Steel “shadow plates” would be cut and attached to the back to provide strength and secure connection points for suspension. In addition, fabrication had to provide adequate space to conceal LED light strips and electrical connections that were to be attached on the back of every section.

To do this, Tableaux had to make some adjustments to their normal production methods. To achieve the desired 2-inch thickness, a spray-on contact adhesive was used to glue two 1-inch boards together, an idea suggested by Chris Aler, Tableaux’s Commercial Project Manager. The process included making templates to eliminate overspray during the adhesive application, and it took 4 people to glue up each 2″ board.

Additionally, the added thickness required testing and using a larger and longer size bit to cut the branch patterns, a process that had not been attempted at Tableaux before. To ensure the final product would meet the visual and installation requirements for the project, Tableaux made a prototype of one section that could be hung and tested at the site.

After a successful test of the prototype, Tableaux created detailed shop drawings of front and back views illustrating positions of shadow plate, D-ring, and MDF.

The order was approved and went into production on November 13, 2020. Tableaux designed and build special crates to help secure the shipment from freight damage as the final production phases were completed, and the order shipped January 12, 2021. General contractors working on the project completed installation in the spring of 2021.

Q: How did Tableaux Decorative Grilles help meet the design goals and vision for this project?

A: The Tableaux designers and engineers worked closely with us to develop a single element that could be repeated, rotated and mirrored in a modulated size that minimized cost as well as a provided a profile to accommodate LED up-lighting.

Headquartered in Atlanta, Rule Joy Trammell + Rubio, LLC (RJTR) is an architectural and interior design practice recognized for excellence in master planning, architecture, interior design, and execution of a wide range of project types including mixed-use, hospitality, multi-family residential, corporate office, and senior living projects.

Atlanta’s food-focused Epicurean Hotel is a foodie’s paradise.
Tableaux worked with Design Associate Valerie Haas of Cooper Carry to custom-design & manufacture the metal panels for this project. A total of sixteen Tableaux Decorative Grilles including 4 curved corners are framed-in above the Double Tap Bar.

Q: With regard to design, what were the needs and expectations of your client for this project?

A: The renovation of The Exchange Food Hall was part of the redevelopment of AT&T’s 2.5 million-square-foot Dallas headquarters into a mixed-use, entertainment-filled, food-anchored experience for AT&T employees and the downtown community.

Our client wanted to us to transform the 2-level,16-stall food hall into new-age destination with design elements inspired by the legacy of the district’s namesake corporation and surrounding Dallas culture.

Valerie sent Tableaux a concept rendering of the design they wanted for the grilles, and Tableaux’s design team created preliminary drawings for client approval.

Q: What challenges did you face in meeting the design goals of this project?

A: Located in a 1970s-era space that once served as a telecommunications call center, The Exchange Food Hall spans 26,700 square feet and features two levels of bars and eateries from a diverse roster of chefs. The space includes a multitude of indoor-outdoor dining options overlooking the District’s high-definition, 9-story digital Media Wall programmed to stream media content, concerts and more for up to 20 hours a day.

Our team was tasked with creating a space for all activity to converge in a central location. We positioned Double Tap Bar on the first floor to be the anchor that connects the The Exchange Food Hall to the outdoor plaza.

After making only one minor revision to the preliminary drawings, Tableaux created a more detailed shop drawing showing the measurements for each piece. This was sent to Valerie for review and moved into production status after receiving final approval.

The flat and curved sections of the Tableaux Decorative Grilles were laser cut using ⅛” standard steel. The client opted to have their contractor paint the grilles on-site using a “Highland Bronze” finish.

Q: How did Tableaux Decorative Grilles help meet the design goals and vision for this project?

A: The Tableaux panels allowed us to create a dramatic suspended overbar for the Double Tap Bar with a pattern that is a modern play on herringbone, that also created a screened element for the storage above and is beautifully up lit to highlight the custom powdered coated brass finish that carries throughout The Exchange Food Hall.

The Johnson Studio at Cooper Carry works closely with their clients to create extraordinary spaces.
An array of custom Tableaux Decorative Grilles adorn this stunning entrance lobby ceiling and front desk wall at The Champlain Waterfront Hotel, an Ascend Hotel Collection.

Designer Corinne Ritsick of design firm Ritsick Design Associates contacted Tableaux about a challenging project in which she was tasked with updating the interior feel of this boutique hotel while respecting the historical aspects of the building.

Q: With regard to design, what were the needs and expectations of your client for this project?

A: We were commissioned to create a boutique destination experience where old and new collide at this magnificent waterfront location in Central Ontario.

A photo of a previous Tableaux project showing decorative grilles with metal framing custom designed for a similar installation into a ceiling was used as inspiration. Tableaux Designers also created a preliminary drawing showing the proposed “Amboise” design pattern and layout of the ceiling for this project.

Q: What challenges did you face in meeting the design goals of this project?

A: The hotel was built in 1932 and restored several times over the years. Preserving its local history while enhancing the beautiful 19th century building with an 82-year-old downtown presence was important to the integrity of the design.

As with many historical buildings, the footprint of several areas in this property were quite small so the impact of materials and finishes had to be big. We created a sense of spaciousness and interaction with updated features reflecting traditional patterns with a 21st century motif in a relaxed contemporary interior.

The initial design (shown below) called for three long panels at the front of the ceiling sections which would not show any seams where joined. This would require a special mending technique that would add cost to the project. The drawing also illustrated several potential installation methods.

The next set of drawings below included a separate drawing for the front desk wall sections and a final drawing showing revised dimensions, and Tableaux’s suggested alternative way of laying out the ceiling so that mending would not be required thus reducing cost.

Corinne chose to use the Tableaux Veneer product family as the material which uses panels made with a real walnut hardwood veneer over an industrial-grade MDF core. She specified Tableaux’s dark “Rockford” aged finish to provide contrast for a dramatic look.

As one 5-star reviewer and local guide commented; “Looks like a historic building from the outside but really tastefully decorated inside. Modern, stylish, and beautiful.”

Q: How did Tableaux Decorative Grilles help meet the design goals and vision for this project?

A: We created a sense of arrival by using the Amboise decorative grilles to draw guests toward the French inspired mirrored front desk. The suspended design above reflected the unique hexagonal pattern on the floor below. We continued the Amboise grilles as a beautiful three-dimensional backdrop to the front desk.

Ritsick Design Associates is a vibrant, nimble interior design company passionate about Hospitality and comprised of talented, dedicated, and creative team members. Tableaux has enjoyed working with HPA Design Group on over 30 different projects in the last 5+ years and was eager to work on this with Niki.

Q: With regard to design, what were the needs and expectations of your client for this project?

A: Create a comfortable and sophisticated resident experience with opportunities and spaces open to hosting events.

HPA Design Group contacted Tableaux and sent the preliminary elevation and design concepts below.

Q: What challenges did you face in meeting the design goals of this project?

A: Filling the double volume amenity space with dynamic and interesting finishes and staying within budget.

The Tableaux team came up with a preliminary drawing based on the initial information received. HPA’s original idea was to use metal for the panels, however; Tableaux presented the idea of using their “Elements” product family.

Tableaux Elements is made from an industrial-grade MDF substrate that together with Tableaux’s finish color application methods, can achieve the look of thick metal at a more economical price. Tableaux also presented Niki with an example photo of a project that was under construction at that time which used MDF that looks like metal.

Once Tableaux was able to obtain final dimensions and proposed installation methods from the installer, they created a shop drawing with section details. The decorative grille panels were split in two halves, both approximately 9’ long and 4.5’ wide. The steel frames were 18’ long, so it was noted that a forklift should be ready to go at the building site for a smooth install.

Q: How did Tableaux Decorative Grilles help meet the design goals and vision for this project?

Senior Interior Designer Brenna Milne with RLF Architects contacted Tableaux about a House of Worship design project in Wildwood, FL. Brenna provided Tableaux with a concept photo and preliminary elevations.

Q: With regard to design, what were the needs and expectations of your client for this project?

A: It was important for the interior design of the Family Life Center to align with the general aesthetics of the Parish’s adjacent Church, which had a modern and elegant style. The project was also replacing the Parish’s existing Family Life Center, so it was important to pay homage to elements from the existing building which was being replaced. One of those elements were the reuse of cast stained glass panels in the chapel. However, we also wanted to incorporate a design element with a similar language in the main Pre-Function space upon entry. This is where Tableaux Grilles were incorporated.

Tableaux provided a preliminary drawing showing the two different sizes of grilles needed to create a clever illusion of a cross.

Q: What challenges did you face in meeting the design goals of this project?

A: The main challenge we faced with this particular feature of the project was detailing the back lighting so that the light source was concealed from different perspectives within the space. We worked in collaboration with Tableaux’s team, the project’s Millwork and General Subcontractor, as well as our interior design and electrical designers to achieve the final design.

After a technical review call between Tableaux and RLF, additional installation details were confirmed and Tableaux was able to create a shop drawing illustrating how all the separate pieces would join with wood framing to complete the overall cross design.

Tableaux also created a drawing to help installers understand how the framing was intended to be assembled and securely attached to the walls. Details of how the framing came together can be seen in the photos below.

Q: How did Tableaux Decorative Grilles help meet the design goals and vision for this project?

A: Tableaux Panels were incorporated at a feature wall which is located at the initial greeting and gathering area. It enabled the design team to pay homage to existing stained glass that is being reused elsewhere in the building. The pattern specified was reminiscent of patterns seen in stained glass. We detailed the panels to be backlit, to replicate light filtering through stained glass and also organized the panels so that the reveals between 4 panels created the shape of a cross. The final design is stunning and brings such beauty to this space.

RLF is a fully-integrated team of architects, engineers, interior designers and planners that shares a passion for creating exceptional spaces through architecture.

St. Vincent de Paul Family Life Center is expansion project for the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Wildwood, FL.
Tableaux received an estimate request from Lise Husted, Owner and Principal Designer of Husted Design based in Edmonds, Washington. Lise uploaded concept drawings and a preliminary elevation (below) for an art wall to be incorporated into an interior design project for GenCare Lifestyle at Point Ruston dining room.

The Tableaux team reviewed the submitted drawings and specifications and began to plan how to design and manufacture the custom decorative grilles for this project. We asked Lise to comment on the following:

Q: With regard to design, what were the needs and expectations of your client for this project?

A: GenCare Lifestyle desired an artistic divider wall between the main dining room and hallway. With regard to design, I sought to pay homage to the city of Tacoma’s vibrant and visible glass art scene, including the internationally known work of Dale Chihuly, and the Museum Of Glass which features live glass blowing.

Q: What challenges did you face in meeting the design goals of this project?

A: The greatest challenge in the project was the shipping and installation of a divider wall of this scale. Installing the coordinating valances was a physical challenge as well.

Q: How did Tableaux Decorative Grilles help meet the design goals and vision for this project?

A: Tableaux provided visual support in every stage of the project. Their renderings helped all parties involved to understand my final design concept. Communication was efficient and unwavering. Packaging and shipping was of the highest quality, nothing arrived damaged. Tableaux were consistently reliable for phone and email support.

Tableaux provided technical drawings (above) to show how the acrylic would install with the steel tube framing and MDF decorative grilles.
The project also called to three additional decorative grilles to be used as valances on the other side of the GenCare dining room.

GenCare Lifestyle Tacoma at Point Ruston is a senior community offering independent living, retirement living & memory care.
